Bali is one of the more affordable international destinations for Indian travellers, but costs can vary widely depending on how you plan the trip. Here's a realistic look at what to budget for.
Round-trip flights from major Indian cities to Denpasar (usually via Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta) typically range from moderate to fairly high, depending on how far in advance you book and which season you're travelling in. Booking two to three months ahead generally offers noticeably better fares than last-minute bookings.
Bali offers a wide accommodation range — budget guesthouses, mid-range boutique hotels, and private pool villas. A comfortable mid-range hotel or villa is generally very reasonably priced compared to similar quality accommodation in many other international destinations, which is part of why Bali offers such good value.
Local warungs (small family-run restaurants) are inexpensive and offer some of the best food on the island. Western-style cafes and restaurants, particularly in Seminyak and Canggu, cost more but are still generally reasonable compared to equivalent dining in cities like Singapore or Bangkok.
Temple entry fees, waterfall visits and rice terrace access are typically low-cost. Bigger-ticket activities — a Mount Batur sunrise trek with a guide, a Nusa Penida day trip, or a private driver for a day — add up but remain reasonable compared to similar experiences elsewhere in Asia.
Renting a scooter is the cheapest way to get around for confident riders, while hiring a private driver for the day is a comfortable and still affordable option many travellers prefer, especially for covering longer distances like Ubud to Uluwatu.
Travel during shoulder season (April-June or September) for better hotel rates without the wet-season downsides. Eat at local warungs for most meals, saving Western-style dining for occasional treats. Book a private driver for a full day rather than paying per activity, which often works out more economical for groups.
For the quality of experience — beaches, culture, food and scenery — Bali offers strong value compared to many other international destinations, particularly for mid-range and villa-style travellers.
